Warranty

Power Tool Warranty Australia — a practical guide for Australian trades from the team at Power Tools Direct Australia.

Every tool we sell is genuine Australian stock covered by the manufacturer’s local warranty and serviced through the authorised Australian network.

Power Tool Warranty Australia: Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Manufacturer warranties sit on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law, they do not replace them. Under the ACL, goods must be of acceptable quality, fit for purpose and match their description.

If a product has a major failure you are entitled to a refund or replacement, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss. For failures that do not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced within a reasonable time.

These rights apply regardless of what any warranty document says, and they are not limited to the warranty period.

Manufacturer warranty by brand

Brand Tool Battery Registration
Milwaukee Up to 5 years Up to 3 years Required for extended term
Makita Up to 3 years Up to 2 years Required for extended term
DeWalt Up to 3 years Up to 2 years Required for extended term
Festool 3 years all-inclusive 3 years Within 30 days of purchase
Bosch Professional Up to 3 years Up to 2 years Required for extended term
Hand tools (Knipex, Wera, Bahco, Stabila) Typically lifetime against manufacturing defect

Terms vary by product line and are set by the manufacturer, not by us. Always check the documentation supplied with your tool.

Register your tools — it matters

Most brands offer their headline warranty period only if you register the tool, usually within 30 days of purchase. An unregistered Milwaukee tool may carry 1 year instead of 5.

Registration takes a few minutes on the manufacturer’s website and needs your serial number and proof of purchase. It also creates a record that is genuinely useful if your tools are ever stolen — see tool theft prevention.

What warranty does not cover

  • Consumables and wear items — blades, bits, abrasives, carbon brushes, chucks, drive belts and cords
  • Normal wear and tear from ordinary use
  • Misuse, abuse or accident — including dropping, submersion and overloading
  • Lack of maintenance — see our maintenance checklist
  • Unauthorised repair — opening the tool yourself will generally void it
  • Hire and rental use, unless the tool is specifically rated for it
  • Battery capacity loss from heat exposure — see battery care in Australian conditions

How to make a warranty claim

  1. Find your proof of purchase. Your order confirmation email works.
  2. Contact us at info@powertoolsdirectaustralia.com with the order number, the fault and photos if relevant.
  3. We will direct you to the nearest authorised service agent, or handle the claim for you where the manufacturer allows it.
  4. Assessment. The service agent determines whether the fault is a manufacturing defect.
  5. Repair, replacement or refund as appropriate.

For faults appearing within 30 days of delivery, contact us first — it is usually faster to resolve directly. See Delivery & Returns.

Beware of grey imports elsewhere

Tools bought outside the official Australian distribution channel generally cannot be claimed under manufacturer warranty here, even though the hardware is genuine. Everything we sell is local stock. Read why grey imports have no warranty.
