Power tool FAQs Australia: delivery & shipping

We keep freight simple with three options. Standard Delivery is a flat $15.99 and usually arrives in 3–7 business days. Express Delivery is $32.55 and typically lands in 1–3 business days to metro areas. Orders over $1,000 ship completely free anywhere in Australia — the discount is applied automatically at checkout, so there is no code to remember. Full details are on our Delivery & Returns page.

Yes. Every order over $1,000 ships free to any Australian address, including regional and remote postcodes. The moment your cart total passes $1,000 the free option appears at checkout and is selected automatically. You will also see a progress bar in your cart showing how much more you need to spend to unlock it. Kitting out a crew is the easiest way to hit the threshold — browse cordless tool kits to bundle up.

Orders placed before 1pm AEST Monday to Friday are picked, packed and dispatched the same business day from our Sydney warehouse. Orders after the cut-off, or placed on a weekend or NSW public holiday, go out the next business day. You will get an email with tracking as soon as the courier scans your parcel.

Yes, we deliver to every Australian postcode including regional WA, NT, far north Queensland and Tasmania. Standard and Express pricing is the same flat rate regardless of location. Remote deliveries can take a few extra business days depending on the courier’s regional run — if you have a deadline, choose Express and we will use the fastest available service.

Absolutely. As soon as your parcel is dispatched we email a tracking number and a direct link to the courier’s tracking page. You can also log into My Account at any time to see order status and tracking history. If tracking has not updated in 48 hours, contact our team and we will chase the courier for you.

We can ship most small items to a PO Box or Parcel Locker via Australia Post. Larger or heavier items — mitre saws, tool chests, site vacuums and bulk battery orders — must go to a street address because they travel with a courier who needs a signature. If your cart contains a bulky item we will let you know at checkout.

Most couriers will leave the parcel in a safe place if it is a low-value item and you have given authority to leave. For higher-value tools a signature is required, so if nobody is available the courier leaves a card and either attempts redelivery or holds the parcel at a local depot. You can add delivery instructions — gate codes, site access, preferred drop-off point — in the notes field at checkout.

Yes. Choose Pay on Collection at checkout and we will have your order ready at our Wetherill Park warehouse in Sydney. We will email you when it is picked and ready — please wait for that email before driving over. Bring your order number and photo ID. Our address and opening hours are on the contact page.

At the moment we only ship within Australia. Our pricing, warranty and consumer-guarantee obligations are built around Australian customers, and shipping tools overseas would void most manufacturer warranties. If you are an Australian business needing bulk supply, talk to us about a trade account.

Take photos of the outer carton and the item before you unpack anything further, then contact us within 48 hours of delivery. Send the photos through and we will lodge a claim with the courier and arrange a replacement or refund straight away. Please keep the original packaging until the claim is resolved — the courier sometimes needs to inspect it.

Orders & Payment

We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express, PayPal, and direct bank transfer (EFT). You can also choose Pay on Collection if you are picking up from our Sydney warehouse. All prices on the site are in Australian dollars and include GST.

Yes — every price you see includes 10% GST, so the figure on the product page is the figure you pay. A full tax invoice showing the GST component is emailed with your order confirmation and is always available in My Account. That invoice is valid for your BAS and tax deductions.

Yes. Every order automatically generates a compliant Australian tax invoice showing our ABN and the GST component. It is emailed to you and stored in My Account. If you need the invoice made out to a company name or need a purchase order number on it, add the details at checkout or let us know.

We do. If you are a licensed trade business buying regularly — or kitting out apprentices — open a trade account and we will put sharper pricing against your regular lines. For one-off bulk buys (say ten of the same impact driver), send us a list and we will quote you within one business day.

If the order has not been dispatched we can usually change or cancel it. Because we dispatch quickly, contact us as soon as possible — call +61 420 127 022 rather than emailing if it is urgent. Once a parcel is with the courier it has to be treated as a return.

No — you can check out as a guest with just an email and delivery address. Creating an account is free and makes life easier though: you get order history, saved addresses, downloadable tax invoices and one-click reordering of consumables. You can create an account here.

Yes. The entire site runs over an encrypted HTTPS connection and card details are processed by a PCI-DSS compliant payment gateway. We never see or store your full card number on our servers. You will see the padlock in your browser’s address bar on every checkout page.

The most common reasons are an incorrect CVV or expiry date, a daily spend limit on the card, or your bank flagging an unusual transaction. Check the details, then try again or use a different method such as PayPal or EFT. If it keeps failing, contact us and we can send a secure payment link or take an EFT.

Returns & Warranty

If you change your mind you have 30 days from delivery to return an item, provided it is unused, in resalable condition and in its original packaging with all accessories. Start the process by contacting our team for a return authorisation. Change-of-mind return postage is at your cost; faulty items are always at ours. Full terms on the Delivery & Returns page.

Once your return arrives and passes inspection we process the refund within 2 business days. It then takes 3–5 business days to appear on a credit card, or 1–2 business days for PayPal and bank transfer. Refunds always go back to the original payment method.

Yes, and this matters more than most buyers realise. Everything we sell is sourced through authorised Australian distribution channels, which means it carries the full manufacturer warranty and can be serviced at any authorised Australian service agent. We never sell grey imports or parallel-imported stock — those often carry no local warranty at all. Read more about us.

You get the full manufacturer’s Australian warranty. As a guide: Milwaukee offers up to 5 years on tools and 3 years on batteries with registration, Makita and DeWalt up to 3 years with registration, and Festool 3 years all-inclusive with registration. Warranty periods vary by product line — check the Warranty tab on any product page, or see our warranty page.

Contact us with your order number, the tool model and a short description of the fault — photos or a video help enormously. We will assess it and either arrange a service agent booking, a repair, or a replacement. We manage the claim with the manufacturer for you rather than sending you off to deal with them yourself.

Yes, for most brands. Milwaukee, Makita, DeWalt and Festool all require online registration — usually within 30 days of purchase — to unlock the extended warranty period. Without registration you generally get the base warranty only. It takes about two minutes on the manufacturer’s website and you will need your receipt and the tool’s serial number.

No. Manufacturer warranties cover defects in materials and workmanship, not consumables and wear items — carbon brushes, chucks, blades, bits, sanding pads and battery capacity loss from normal cycling. Damage from misuse, water ingress, dropping or using the wrong accessory is also excluded. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law still apply on top of any manufacturer warranty.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have goods repaired or replaced if they fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. These rights sit alongside — not instead of — the manufacturer’s warranty.

Unopened batteries and chargers can be returned within 30 days under our change-of-mind policy. Once a battery has been charged or used it cannot be returned for change of mind, for safety and resale reasons. Faulty batteries are always covered — most brands warrant batteries for 2–3 years with registration.

That is on us and we will fix it fast. Contact us with your order number and a photo of what arrived. We will send the correct item and arrange a free return label for the incorrect one — you will not be out of pocket.

Products & Brands

We carry over 30 professional brands including Milwaukee, Makita, DeWalt, Festool, Bosch, Metabo, HiKOKI, Stabila, Knipex, Wera, Wiha, Veto Pro Pac, Toughbuilt, Paslode, Bahco and Vessel. Browse the full list on our brands page.

A bare tool (also called a skin or body-only, often marked with a -0 suffix) is the tool alone — no battery, no charger, no case. It is the cheapest way to expand if you already own batteries on that platform. A kit includes batteries, a charger and usually a case. If you are starting from scratch buy the kit; if you are adding your fifth M18 tool, buy the skin. Browse the full range to compare.

For most trades the answer is 18V. It handles roughly 90% of jobs and every major brand has a huge 18V range. 12V platforms like Milwaukee M12 shine for overhead work, tight cavities, cabinetry and all-day light-duty use where weight and fatigue matter. Plenty of tradies run both. We cover this in detail in our tool guides.

For professional daily use, yes. Brushless motors deliver up to 50% more runtime per charge and around 30% more power than an equivalent brushed motor, run cooler, and last far longer because there are no carbon brushes wearing out. For occasional home use a brushed tool is still fine and saves money upfront — but if the tool earns you money, buy brushless.

No. Every manufacturer uses its own battery interface, so a Makita LXT battery will not fit a Milwaukee M18 tool. Within a brand’s platform they are interchangeable — any 18V Makita LXT battery fits any 18V LXT tool. This is why choosing a platform matters more than choosing any single tool. Browse Milwaukee, Makita or DeWalt battery ranges.

FUEL is Milwaukee’s premium line, combining three technologies: a POWERSTATE brushless motor, REDLITHIUM battery packs, and REDLINK PLUS intelligence that manages overload and heat. FUEL tools are noticeably more powerful and longer-running than standard M18 tools. See the Milwaukee range.

LXT is Makita’s long-established 18V platform with over 300 compatible tools — the safest choice for range and battery availability. XGT is a newer 40V Max system built from the ground up for higher-demand applications, with its own batteries that are not cross-compatible with LXT. Many tradies run LXT for everyday work and add XGT for heavy demolition or large-diameter cutting. Browse Makita tools.

FlexVolt batteries automatically switch between 18V and 54V depending on the tool they are inserted into. That means one battery can run your standard XR drill and a 54V mitre saw. It is a clever way to add high-demand tools without a second battery ecosystem. See the DeWalt range.

We stock consumables and accessories — blades, bits, sanding pads, filters, dust bags, chucks and carry cases. Internal spare parts such as armatures, gearboxes and switches are handled through the manufacturer’s authorised service network. Tell us what you need and we will point you to the right agent or order it in.

That is what we are here for. Call +61 420 127 022 or email us with the job you are doing and your budget, and we will give you a straight answer — including telling you when the cheaper tool is the right one. Our buying guides also compare the popular options side by side.

We aim to be competitive on every line. If you find the same genuine, Australian-stock item advertised cheaper by a legitimate Australian retailer, send us the link and we will do our best to match or beat it. We cannot match grey imports, overseas sellers or clearance stock we cannot verify.

Stock moves quickly on popular lines. Contact us with the model number and we will tell you the expected restock date, or suggest an equivalent that is available now. For most major brands we can order in within a few business days.

Tool Care & Safety

Store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sun — never on the dashboard or in a hot ute tray, where Australian summer temperatures can exceed 60°C and permanently damage cells. For long-term storage leave them at roughly 40–60% charge rather than full or flat, and top them up every few months. Never store a damaged, swollen or water-affected battery indoors.

A quality 18V lithium-ion pack typically gives 3–5 years or roughly 1,000–1,500 charge cycles before capacity noticeably drops. Heat is the main killer — charging a hot battery straight after heavy use, or leaving packs in the sun, will shorten life significantly. Let packs cool before charging and you will get years more out of them.

No — that was true of old nickel-cadmium batteries but it actively harms lithium-ion. Modern packs prefer partial top-ups and deep discharge stresses the cells. Charge whenever convenient, and avoid leaving a pack completely flat for weeks at a time.

At minimum: safety glasses to AS/NZS 1337 for anything that cuts, grinds or drills; hearing protection for tools over 85 dB (most grinders, saws and hammer drills); and a P2 respirator when cutting concrete, masonry or MDF. Silica dust exposure is heavily regulated on Australian sites and causes irreversible lung damage. Use the dust extraction port if the tool has one.

Blow tools out with low-pressure air at the end of the day, especially motor vents and battery terminals — fine silica dust is abrasive and conductive. Keep them in a closed case rather than loose in the ute. Wipe metal surfaces down if you are working coastal, as salt air causes corrosion fast. Check cords and battery contacts weekly for damage.

Generally no. Most cordless tools carry no formal IP rating and water ingress will void your warranty and can destroy the electronics. Light drizzle under cover is usually survivable; sustained rain is not. If a tool does get wet, remove the battery immediately, do not operate it, and let it dry thoroughly before testing.

About Power Tools Direct Australia

We operate from a warehouse at Unit 4, 12 Hallstrom Place, Wetherill Park NSW 2164, in western Sydney. That is where every order is picked and dispatched, and where collection orders are available. See the contact page for opening hours and a map.

Yes. We source through authorised Australian distribution for every brand we carry, which is what makes your manufacturer warranty valid at any local service agent. If a retailer cannot confirm authorised Australian supply, the warranty on that tool may be worthless here. Read more about our business.

Call +61 420 127 022 Monday to Friday 7:00am–5:00pm AEST or Saturday 8:00am–12:00pm, email info@powertoolsdirectaustralia.com, or use the form on our contact page. We answer every enquiry within one business day.

We run a warehouse rather than a retail showroom, so we do not have tools out on display to handle. You are very welcome to collect orders from Wetherill Park — just choose Pay on Collection at checkout and wait for the ready-to-collect email. If you want advice before buying, call us; we would rather talk you into the right tool than sell you the wrong one.

Still have a question?

Our team are tradies and we would rather spend five minutes on the phone than have you buy the wrong tool. Get in touch, browse the buying guides, or read about delivery and returns and warranty terms.
